Make this business really take off

 Hey everyone,

I have been going at this for just over a year now and I am so excited to see where this next year brings us! We started off with basic interior and exterior cleaning and now have moved onto paint corrections and ceramic coatings. It has been a super busy year for sure.

I was able to leave my job at the nuclear plant and make a go at this full time which has been the best experience ever! Making my own hours has been the best thing I have ever experienced, not to mention the work attire I am able to wear now. No more work boots, pants, and long sleeve shirts for this guy! Now its crocks, shorts, and t-shirts!

I am just about to enough clientele to be able to have a second person working full time to keep up with the demand that this town has brought me. The tourists have almost all gone home now with the new school year starting. But this big project going on at the Bruce it has brought in so many contractors for work. I am hoping to double my business in the next year or so. Taking it from 8 cars a week to over 15 with a few employees!

Industrial Carpet Extractors

Hey everyone!

I remember when I first started detailing cars I was doing it our driveway up until the snow started to fly! We were searching for a shop to rent at the time and found the spot we are in now. I started off with a 40 pack of rags, a shopvac, a spot cleaner, and some small bottles of cleaning products. Quickly I learned that shampooing carpets and seats was a bigger job then anticipated. When we moved into the shop we searched for a used carpet extractor and found one down in Windsor. Boy what a difference that made for time.

Before we got the industrial extractor I had to vacuum the entire car with the shop vac to pick up the bigger stuff then move onto using the spot cleaner to get the stains and smaller stuff out. Now with the big extractor I can skip the step of vacuuming before shampooing the carpets. About 2 months ago my employee was running the extractor and it started shooting sparks and smoking really bad! We dug into it and found that one of the two motors had gone bad! Thankfully I started searching on kijiji for a spare extractor. I finally found one but it was all the way in tToronto, I was able to have a friend pick up while he was there and I was back up and running!

I ended up finding a new motor for my original extractor and I installed it, now it has been working for the last few months, but today I found it was making some strange noises. I havent had a chance to dive into it yet I just swapped over to my spare unit for the time being. I think it may need another motor.

Ceramic coating

Hey everyone, We recently had one of our friends contact us for a ceramic coating and paint correction on a 92 mustang. A few days ago I started working on it, we started with an exterior wash followed by a complete engine bay shampoo. From there we gave the interior some love with the carpet shampooer along with our favourite chemical guys product for the panels and plastics. Once finished with those things we moved onto the paint correction portion of the task, we started with the chemical decontamination using a clay bar along side our chemical guys quick detailer spray to get all the contaminates out of the paint before moving on with the buffer. Someone vandelized his car when parked at a local beach by setting a steel cup on the hood and started swirling it around leaving a big mess of scratches, Yikes! I managed to get about 3/4 of the scratches out and it is not near as noticable now compared to when I started. The next thing that was tampered with was the antenna, someone grabbed a hold of it and snapped it clean off for no apparent reason. Lucky for me we have quite the selection of scrap cars in our compound and found a replacement antenna free of charge for him! When we completed the paint correction we wiped down the entire car with a mixture of alchohal and water, about a 20/80 mixture to take off the residue from the polishes we used during the paint correction. Next was time to install the ceramic coating. Using an applicator block from our favourite brand (chemical guys) I put some of the coating onto it and went to wiping. He wanted the 8 year warranty product so we went with it! When applying the coating it is best to do one panel at a time, once applied to the panel it is important not to let it sit on there for too long or you wont be able to buff off with a microfiber towel. 5-20 seconds for this ceramic coating, it almost turns to a haze when it is ready to be buffed off. Starting at the back on the trunk I worked my way around the car followed by the rims and the fender well. The finished product of this car is absolutly breath taking! Ready to start taking it to car shows! Thanks for the read! Here is a link for the clay bar we use!

First ceramic coating finished up!

Hey everyone, last week I finished up my first ceramic coating on a 2006 f150. It turned out amazing and the customer was over the top happy with the results!

We started off with paint correction and headlight restoration. I used my torq buffer along with a line up of chemical guys polishes and cutting compounds to bring the paint back to life. I purchased all of these products off of Amazon so they came in speedy!

Started off the morning with a complete exterior wash followed by clay bar extraction. For those of you that are unsure what that means, you can order the clay bars from Amazon and use along side with a quick detailer of your choice and simply break off a piece of the clay bar and spray the detailer onto the paint and rub it down with the clay bar. This method is used to take away all the contaminations in the paint so when you start buffing with the power buffer it doesn’t cause more damage! We spent about 8 hours buffing the entire truck getting it ready for the ceramic coating. Turned out amazing!

Polishes we use during the paint correction! Loving this new business I have created and look forward to building it up even bigger!

Learn from your mistakes!

Hey everyone,

I was speaking with the manager of the dealership yesterday and unfortunatly he was unable to run the window replacements under warranty. So we got stuck with a pretty hefty bill for the replacement windows. All you can do is move on I suppose! We are tinting a brand new chevy blazer next week and Ill make sure to take some photos and post them on here! My order of window tint and new stainless steel blades should be here today or tomorrow so we have no more issues cutting up the windows. On the plus side the windows I needed to replace will fit in my company truck and are a lot less scratched then the ones currently in the truck so I will be installing those as well as some darker tint followed by the full windshield!

Window tinting

Hey Everyone, I recently started tinting windows and lined up a brand new truck from the dodge dealership here in Port Elgin. Here I am thinking I can tint windows with the best of them, boy was I wrong! A little while ago there was a fella in my shop tinting a corvette so he tought me some techniques and set me up with a supplier. I used the techniques he gave me and did some used trucks and a few F-150s, then when it came time to do a dodge ram I used the same techniques. I wasted A LOT of window film trying to get it done perfectly because it was my first one for a new client. Finally finsished up I phoned the sales manager to come pick it up and after he did I received a call that the windows were scratched up a lot. I dove into the problem and it turns out I was using the wrong type of blade in my knife. I was using carbon steel blades and I should have been using stainless steel instead. Anyway lesson learned I supose. I still have some learning to do and I am very hopeful that the dealership is willing to give me a second chance! Thanks for the read!

Detailing is taking off in this small town!

Hey everyone! We have been slammed busy with work it has been insane! We are doing paint corrections and ceramic coatings now, as well as acid washes on those tough stains on the hulls of boats. We are over the top excited to see what the rest of this crazy year will bring. Nicole has started doing the interior detailing on the vehicles while I take care of the booking and scheduling, along with the exterior portions of detailing. We have upgraded to 2 carpet extractors along with a couple buffers to have on hand while working on paint corrections and ceramic coatings. Thanks for the read!

Mistakes happen

Hey guys!  A couple weeks ago I did a full detail on an Acadia and had an issue with it I’ll mention more after. It is a customer that has ...
